Company apologises after deodorant users suffer burns and rashes
TikToker shows price difference between men and women's deodorants
Users of Mitchum deodorants have reported experiencing painful rashes and burns under their arms, with some sharing photos on social media platforms like TikTok.
Mitchum has withdrawn affected batches of its 48-hour roll-on deodorants from sale across the UK, Ireland, and South Africa.
The company apologised, attributing the issue to a change in the manufacturing process of a raw material, which altered how the product interacted with some consumers' skin, rather than a change in the formula itself.
A pharmaceutical professor suggested that irritants such as acetyl cedrene and vanillin, often found in fragrances, could be responsible for the skin reactions.
Mitchum has reverted to its original manufacturing process for the affected products and has published a list of the specific batch codes impacted.
