Scientists discover exercise can restore the immune system after Covid
New COVID strain arrives in the UK
A new study has found that exercise, such as walking, running, and cycling, can help restore the immune system following a Covid infection.
Presented at the European Respiratory Society Congress, the research showed that an exercise programme significantly improved immune cell function in individuals with post-Covid syndrome.
Experts suggest exercise likely enhances blood flow, which mobilises immune cells to better monitor for threats and reduce symptoms like tiredness and joint pain.
The eight-week programme, involving 31 hospitalised patients, led to improvements in specific T-cells responsible for a rapid response to future infections.
The findings offer a potential solution for patients concerned about immune dysfunction and repeated Covid infections, according to Dr Guido Vagheggini.
