Ryanair will make smartphone boarding passes mandatory from 3 November, discontinuing paper print-outs.
The airline said this move will eliminate airport check-in fees and save 300 tonnes of paper annually.
CEO Michael O'Leary assured passengers that if they have checked in online, a free paper boarding pass can be re-issued at the airport if their phone is lost.
The current £20 fee for re-issuing a boarding pass will be abolished.
Morocco and Albania are exceptions where paper boarding passes will still be accepted, though Albania will go digital from next March.
