Ryanair CEO claims cabin luggage crackdown will lead to lower fares
- Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has announced an intensified crackdown on passengers exceeding cabin baggage limits, claiming it will lead to lower fares.
- From November, incentives for ground staff to identify oversized bags will increase from €1.50 to €2.50 (£1.30 to £2.25) per bag.
- The earning cap for ground staff who identify large luggage – currently €80 (£69) per month – will also be raised.
- Passengers whose bags exceed the 40 x 30 x 20cm limit face penalties of up to £60, and their luggage will be placed in the hold.
- Mr O'Leary defended the strict policy, saying it targets a small percentage of non-compliant passengers and improves boarding efficiency and turnaround times.
