United Airlines has added new flights to 15 cities across the US and Central America following Spirit Airlines filing for bankruptcy for the second time in a year.
New domestic routes include services from Newark Liberty International Airport to Columbia, South Carolina, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, along with additional round-trip flights from Houston, Chicago, and Newark to various established destinations.
United will also introduce new weekly international flights connecting Houston with Guatemala City, San Salvador, and San Pedro Sula.
These additional flights are scheduled to commence on 6 January, with tickets becoming available for purchase from Thursday.
Spirit Airlines, which reported a $1.2 billion net loss in 2024 and cancelled flights to 11 US cities, stated it intends to remain in business despite United's competitive moves.
