Walmart recalls Great Value frozen shrimp products
Food Recall
The FDA has announced a recall of certain Great Value raw frozen shrimp products sold at Walmart due to potential contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope.
The alert originated from US Customs and Border Protection detecting potential Cs-137 in shipping containers, with subsequent testing confirming the substance in frozen shrimp from Indonesian distributor BMS Foods.
Despite the findings, the FDA confirmed that no contaminated shrimp has entered the US food supply, but advises recalling all BMS Foods products shipped after the initial detection.
Consumers who have purchased these Great Value shrimp products, sold in specific US states including Alabama, Florida, and Texas, are advised to dispose of them immediately.
The FDA has also imposed a ban on all future imports from BMS Foods until the company addresses the conditions that led to the contamination risk, noting that significant Cs-137 exposure can be harmful.
