£3 sunscreen offers better protection than expensive creams – study

Martin Lewis explains why you should always turn your suncream around
  • Consumer watchdog Which? tested 15 popular sun creams, finding that some expensive brands failed to provide adequate protection.
  • Ultrasun Family SPF30, costing £28, failed to meet minimum UVA protection levels in two separate tests conducted by Which?.
  • Morrisons Moisturising Sun Spray SPF30 also failed, as it did not meet minimum SPF protection levels in two tests.
  • Affordable supermarket own-brand products, such as Aldi’s Lacura Sensitive Sun Lotion SPF50+ (£2.99) and Lidl’s Cien Sun Spray 30 SPF High (£3.79), passed all UVA and UVB/SPF tests.
  • Which? said that effective sun protection does not require high spending, with several cheaper options proving reliable and safe.
