Study reveals how many Americans have been in an AI relationship

  • A new study reveals that almost one third of Americans (28%) report having an "intimate or romantic relationship" with an AI chatbot.
  • The survey by Vantage Point Counseling Services found that over half (54%) of respondents had some form of relationship with an AI platform, including platonic or professional connections.
  • Among those with intimate AI relationships, 53% are also in successful human relationships, whilst 37.5% are not seeking or have been unsuccessful in human romantic pursuits.
  • ChatGPT was identified as the most popular AI platform for these relationships, followed by Character.ai, Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google's Gemini.
  • The rise in AI romantic relationships occurs amidst a "Sex Recession" in the US and increasing portrayal in popular culture, such as the film 'Her'.
