Study reveals how many Americans have been in an AI relationship
More than half of those surveyed (54 percent) said that they had some sort of relationship with an artificial intelligence platform (Alamy/PA)
A new study reveals that almost one third of Americans (28%) report having an "intimate or romantic relationship" with an AI chatbot.
The survey by Vantage Point Counseling Services found that over half (54%) of respondents had some form of relationship with an AI platform, including platonic or professional connections.
Among those with intimate AI relationships, 53% are also in successful human relationships, whilst 37.5% are not seeking or have been unsuccessful in human romantic pursuits.
ChatGPT was identified as the most popular AI platform for these relationships, followed by Character.ai, Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google's Gemini.
The rise in AI romantic relationships occurs amidst a "Sex Recession" in the US and increasing portrayal in popular culture, such as the film 'Her'.
