Four African countries are set to deplete their vital emergency food supplies within the next three months, endangering millions of malnourished children.
Exclusive findings by Save the Children highlight critical shortages in Nigeria, Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia, where current provisions are insufficient to treat severely acutely malnourished children.
Moazzam Malik, CEO of Save the Children UK, described the impending depletion of life-saving treatments as “unthinkable”, attributing it to global aid cuts.
In South Sudan, only a third of children needing treatment for severe acute malnutrition received it due to the closure of nutrition facilities following aid reductions.
The UK government's projected aid cuts are expected to drastically reduce its support for malnutrition programmes, raising concerns about increased global deaths.
