Sole survivor of Air India crash recounts final moments of doomed flight
Lone survivor of Air India crash gives first broadcast interview
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air Indiaplane crash in Ahmedabad, has described the horror of watching people die and recounted his escape from the wreckage.
Mr Ramesh, a British national, reported that the plane felt "stuck in the air" shortly after takeoff, followed by green and white flickering lights and a sudden crash into a building.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for Gatwick, crashed into a medical college, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and at least five medical students.
Mr Ramesh said he thought he was dead at first, then saw a gap in the fuselage: “I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out.”
Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash. Experts suggest possible engine failure or incorrect flap settings.
