  • Aldi is set to increase its minimum wage for store assistants to £13 an hour nationwide from 1 September.
  • The supermarket claims this makes it the first UK grocery chain to introduce this new minimum rate.
  • For workers within the M25, the minimum hourly rate will rise to £14.33.
  • This marks the second pay rise announcement from the German discount supermarket this year.
  • Other major supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Lidl, have also recently raised their bottom rates for shop workers.
