AOC condemns cancelling Kimmel and the 'weaponisation' of Charlie Kirk's murder to attack free speech
The House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated at a Utah college campus last week.
The measure passed 310-58, with 95 Democrats joining Republicans in support, though a significant number of Democrats opposed, voted 'present', or did not vote.
Despite support from House Democratic leadership, many Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, expressed strong reservations due to Kirk's past controversial comments.
AOC highlighted Kirk's previous remarks, such as calling the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a 'mistake' and saying Jewish people controlled colleges, Hollywood and nonprofits.
The vote followed earlier drama in the House surrounding Kirk's death, including accusations against Democrats and a defeated resolution to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar from committees.
