Shooting of Charlie Kirk risks 'uncorking political chaos and violence', says Democrat AOC
Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has rescheduled a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, citing safety concerns following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that current security protocols are not designed for the present 'stochastic time' of political violence.
Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist, was fatally shot on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University, an incident widely described as a political assassination.
Other lawmakers, including Republican Nancy Mace and Democrat Jared Moskowitz, have also expressed significant fears for their personal safety, with Mace cancelling public events and vowing to carry a firearm.
While prominent Democrats have condemned the violence and called for tighter gun control, some Republicans have blamed Democrats for inciting political violence, though Ocasio-Cortez urged action over finger-pointing.
