A man attacked and slightly injured four people with an axe on an ICE express train travelling from southern Germany towards Vienna on Thursday.
The incident occurred between Straubing and Plattling in Bavaria, with approximately 500 people on board the train.
A man was overpowered by fellow passengers and subsequently detained by police, with authorities saying he “is probably somewhat more seriously injured” than the victims of the attack.
Emergency services, including around 150 police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, were deployed to the scene, leading to the closure of the railway line.
A special care centre was established for passengers, and psychological caregivers were on hand to assist those traumatised by the event.
