Badenoch suggests housing migrants in ‘camps’ as small boat crossings hit 50,000
Kemi Badenoch suggests putting asylum seekers in ‘migrant camps’
Kemi Badenoch has suggested housing asylum seekers in "camps" instead of hotels, questioning the suitability of older rules for current immigration challenges.
Her proposal follows new Home Office figures indicating that almost 50,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats since Sir Keir Starmer took office.
Badenoch made these comments to the public in Epping, Essex, on Monday, 11 August.
The suggestion comes amidst recent protests in Epping against the decision to house asylum seekers in local hotels.
