Massive eruption in Indonesia spews ash 10,000 metres high
Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki in Indonesia erupted, sending ash plumes up to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) into the sky and prompting evacuations.
The eruption alert was raised to the highest level, expanding the danger zone to 8 kilometers (about 5 miles) from the crater.
Ash and debris fell in nearby villages, causing some residents to evacuate to safer locations.
Dozens of Flights to and from Bali and Labuan Bajo were canceled, affecting thousands of travelers due to the risk volcanic ash poses to plane engines.
Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki is one of Indonesia's 120 active volcanoes, located in the Ring of Fire, a region known for frequent seismic activity.
