Phillipson calls for ‘change of culture’ in Downing Street
Angela Rayner acted in good faith on stamp duty, Bridget Phillipson says
Bridget Phillipson, the Education Secretary, is campaigning to become Labour's deputy leader, aiming to unite the party and defeat Reform UK.
She is competing against Lucy Powell, who was recently removed from her role as Commons leader, and who is calling for a “change of culture” within Downing Street.
Phillipson and Powell are the only two candidates who secured enough support from fellow MPs to advance past the initial nomination stage.
Both candidates now need to gain support from 5 per cent of constituency parties or at least three affiliated organisations, including a minimum of two trade unions.
The ballot for the deputy leadership contest is scheduled to open on 8 October, close on 23 October, with the winner to be announced on 25 October.
