Two Chinese navy ships crash during pursuit of Philippine patrol vessel
Chinese vessels collide while chasing Philippine patrol boat
Two Chinese navy boats collided in the South China Sea on Monday, while pursuing a Philippines-flagged patrol boat.
The Philippine Coast Guard vessel was distributing aid to fishermen in the contested Scarborough Shoal when it was pursued by Chinese vessels.
A Chinese warship suffered "substantial damage" and was rendered "unseaworthy" following a "risky manoeuvre" by a smaller Chinese coast guard vessel, Philippines Commodore Jay Tarriela said.
The Philippines released footage of the incident, while China acknowledged a confrontation but did not specifically mention the collision.
