State Department official signals crackdown on foreign-born individuals for glorifying violence
Donald Trump announces he will posthumously award Charlie Kirk Presidential Medal of Freedom
A senior State Department official, Chris Landau, has indicated a renewed push to target foreign-born individuals in the US for expulsion if their speech or actions are deemed to “glorify violence,” following the killing of Charlie Kirk.
Landau publicly urged supporters to report such comments by foreigners to the State Department, stating the agency's aim is to “protect the American people.”
This move is seen as part of the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to limit First Amendment rights for non-citizens, despite Supreme Court rulings affirming these rights.
The administration has previously sought to revoke visas for foreign-born students involved in protests against the Israeli siege of Gaza, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio vowing similar actions.
Legal experts warn that these actions, which target individuals based on their beliefs and statements, could undermine free speech rights for all Americans and reflect a broader societal devaluation of free expression.
