Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has announced his withdrawal from the race for the Irish presidency.
He was due to address Dublin City Council and Kildare County Council to secure the necessary nominations for the October election.
McGregor claimed Ireland's "outdated constitution" and eligibility rules act as a "straitjacket", preventing a truly democratic presidential election.
His decision follows a recent civil court case where he lost an appeal and was ordered to pay significant damages and legal costs after being sued for rape.
Despite withdrawing from this election, McGregor stated his political journey is not over and he intends to contest future elections.
