Lammy’s warning for the West after America’s Iran strikes

UK ministers have warned the country faces an elevated threat due to escalating tensions in the Middle East following US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Foreign secretary David Lammy told BBC Breakfast the situation was a “moment of peril” and urged Iran to avoid retaliating against US bases in the region, calling such action a potentially “catastrophic mistake”.
Business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the threat to the UK from Iran was already at a 'significant level' with weekly cyberattacks, and was expected to escalate further.
Sir Keir Starmer, who previously pushed for de-escalation, described Iran’s nuclear programme as a “grave threat to international security”.
Iran retaliated against the US by launching a ballistic missile barrage against Israel, condemning the US action as “brutal military aggression” and vowing to defend its territory and sovereignty.
