Donald Trump's approval rating increased by five points to 45 per cent in a recent AP/NORC survey, with his economic handling approval also rising to 43 per cent.
A separate Gallup survey indicated his overall approval at 40 per cent, though his foreign policy approval reached a new low of 39 per cent.
Over half of those surveyed (53 per cent) approved of his measures to tackle crime.
More than half of respondents agreed with the president's use of the National Guard and federal agents to address crime in major cities.
A significant majority of Republican voters (82 per cent) found federal deployment of the National Guard "somewhat acceptable", marking a shift in their traditional stance on federal intervention.
