A new study from Italy's University of Messina indicates that midday is the most favourable time for oral exams, job interviews, or trials.
Researchers observed that students' pass rates were highest at 72 per cent around 12pm, compared to 54 per cent at 8am and 51 per cent at 4pm.
The study analysed 104,552 university oral assessments, which are marked subjectively, to reach its conclusions.
The midday peak in performance is attributed to factors such as improved cognitive function, declining energy levels, and potential decision fatigue in examiners.
The findings suggest that students could benefit from better sleep and strategic scheduling, while institutions might consider clustering key assessments in the late morning.
