France and Spain have issued red weather warnings as extreme temperatures are forecast across Europe this week.
Spain's meteorological service Aemet predicts peaks of 44C in Seville, while France could see highs of 39C in areas like Lyon and Montelimar.
The red warnings signify "significant risk" to health, with authorities advising vigilance for vulnerable groups and even healthy individuals due to potential heat-related illnesses.
An agricultural climatologist described the situation as "not normal, it's a nightmare".
The extreme heat has also exacerbated wildfires in northern Spain, Portugal, and Turkey, leading to evacuations and significant firefighting efforts.
