What we know about the Gaza ceasefire plan that Israel has accepted
Palestinian UN envoy breaks down in tears over children dying in Gaza
The White House has confirmed Israel's support for a new U.S. ceasefire proposal for Gaza, while Hamas is reviewing the plan but states the terms do not meet its demands.
The proposal suggests a 60-day pause in fighting, serious negotiations for a long-term truce, and guarantees Israel will not resume hostilities after the hostage release.
Hamas would release 10 living hostages and some bodies during the pause in exchange for more than 1,100 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
The proposed deal also includes allowing hundreds of trucks carrying food and aid into Gaza daily, addressing the near-famine conditions due to the Israeli blockade.
Hamas has offered to give up power to a committee of politically independent Palestinians.
