Harvard University is suing the Trump administration over a US$2.2 billion funding freeze, alleging the administration is violating its free speech rights.
The Trump administration froze the funds after Harvard refused to comply with demands to suppress student protests and screen international applicants based on their political views, particularly regarding Palestine.
The administration claims Harvard is violating civil rights laws by not addressing antisemitism, demanding an end to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programmes.
Harvard's lawsuit argues the funding freeze jeopardises critical research and is part of a broader effort to punish the university for upholding constitutional rights.
The lawsuit targets several federal officials and agencies, including the secretaries of Health and Human Services, Education, and the Attorney General.
