Millions suffered sleepless nights and stress in summer heatwaves

A Citizens Advice survey has revealed millions across the UK suffered sleepless nights, higher bills, and deteriorating health this summer due to their homes being ill-equipped for soaring temperatures.
Almost half of Britons (47 per cent) reported difficulty sleeping, while 11 per cent experienced deteriorating health and 14 per cent felt stressed due to the heat.
Thirteen per cent faced higher bills trying to cool their homes, with one in three finding it difficult to keep their home cool.
Citizens Advice said that the UK's poorly insulated housing stock, which is cold in winter, also allows heat to easily enter in summer, leading to 20 per cent of people dreading future summers.
The charity urged the Government to retrofit homes with proper insulation and ventilation through its Warm Homes Plan, a call the Government responded to by citing a £13.2 billion investment in home improvements.
