Some 1.4 million cars investigated over ‘potential safety risk’

Safety regulators have launched an investigation into over 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles following numerous reports of engine failures.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said more than 400 reports of "connecting rod bearing failures" were analysed in 2023.
These specific failures were found to be outside the scope of a November 2023 Honda recall, which addressed a different crankshaft manufacturing defect in 249,000 vehicles.
The previous recall highlighted that a seized connecting rod bearing could damage the engine, cause it to stall, or stop while driving, increasing the risk of fire, crash, or injury.
NHTSA stated that the "significant number" of new engine failure reports indicates a "potential safety risk" requiring further investigation, affecting models from 2016 onwards.
