Britain set for ‘very strong winds’ in wet and unsettled week

UK weather: The latest Met Office forecast
  • Hurricane Humberto, which strengthened to a Category 4 storm, is currently over the southwest Atlantic and is being closely monitored by the Met Office for its potential impact on the UK.
  • The storm, along with Tropical Storm Imelda, could influence UK weather later this week, increasing the risk of a deep low developing near Britain with strong winds and heavy rainfall from Friday into Saturday.
  • A yellow weather warning for persistent, heavy rain has been issued for Scotland from Wednesday evening until Friday morning, with up to 250mm of rain expected in some mountainous regions.
  • The heavy rainfall in Scotland could lead to localised flooding, power cuts, and damage to homes and businesses, with warnings about fast-flowing and deep floodwater.
  • Separately, a yellow weather warning for dense fog affected parts of east and southeast England on Monday morning, causing traffic delays and reduced visibility.
