Airport closed and hotel evacuated amid floods in holiday hotspot
Ibiza hit by red weather warning as flooding leaves cars submerged
Heavy flooding has devastated the Spanish islands of Ibiza and Formentera due to torrential rains from the remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle.
In Ibiza, four people were rescued from a hotel after a rockfall which led to 220 tourist evacuations and three injuries, while the airport was also flooded.
The Balearic Islands government deployed the military to assist rescue teams, with around 1,000 people missing flights and fairgrounds opened for 50 homeless individuals.
Ibiza Town recorded an "extraordinary" 254mm of rainfall in 24 hours, making it the wettest day since 1952, and Formentera saw over 180mm in 12 hours.
All education centres in Ibiza town were closed, and while a red alert was issued, weather warnings for the islands were subsequently lifted.
