Ice cream vans could face 12 second chime rule and 15-minute trading limit
South Cambridgeshire District Council is considering new regulations for ice cream vans following complaints about “illegal or unauthorised” sellers.
Proposed changes include limiting the duration of chimes to 12 seconds and restricting their playing times to between 12pm and 7pm.
Chimes would also be prohibited within 50 metres of schools during school hours, hospitals, and places of worship.
New rules would require traders to obtain permission from nearby schools before selling in their vicinity and impose a 15-minute trading limit in approved locations.
A consultation is expected after councillors supported the changes, with other councils highlighting risks associated with unregulated vans and food hygiene.
