  • Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has revealed that 24,000 deportations have occurred under Labour since the general election in July 2024.
  • Speaking at a summit of 40 world leaders, Sir Keir said returns of illegal immigrants to their home countries under Labour were running at their fastest for eight years.
  • He announced £33m in funding for international efforts to combat smuggling gangs.
  • Sir Keir framed his approach to Illegal immigration as compassionate and progressive, emphasising the exploitation of vulnerable people by criminal networks.
  • Labour’s 24,000 returns would have taken 80 years under the deportation scheme pursued by the Conservatives’ Rishi Sunak, he said.
