Fossil of Jurassic dinosaur extracted from Isle of Skye cliff
The Elgol dinosaur dates from the Middle Jurassic period - A dinosaur fossil, first discovered in 1973 on the Isle of Skye, has been successfully extracted from the base of a cliff.
- Nicknamed the Elgol Dinosaur, it's Scotland's earliest and most complete dinosaur fossil.
- Dating back to the Middle Jurassic period, the fossil is believed to be from an ornithopod, a plant-eating dinosaur.
- The dinosaur was about the size of a pony and at least eight years old.
- The extraction was challenging, requiring a specialist team and a local boat company.
