Israel-Iran ceasefire ‘now in effect’

Why US-Iran strikes are raising fears of a wider conflict
  • US President Donald Trump has announced on Truth Social that Israel and Iran have agreed to a "Complete and Total CEASEFIRE", which was set to begin at 12 a.m. ET (5 a.m. BST) Tuesday.
  • Vice President JD Vance stated on Fox News that Iranians "don't want to keep fighting" and that Trump's administration "obliterated the Iranian nuclear program" without American casualties.
  • Israel’s government confirmed it has agreed to a ceasefire with Iran, while Trump posted online that the ceasefire is “now in effect”.
  • The announcement comes after the US struck three Iranian nuclear sites and Iran launched missile strikes on a US base in Qatar.
  • Trump had previously suggested support for "regime change" in Iran, but Vance said that the military's mission was to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities, not to effect regime change.
