  • At least 27 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured near an aid centre in Rafah after Israeli troops opened fire, according to local health officials.
  • The incident occurred near an aid distribution centre run by the US-based and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
  • The Israeli military confirmed its troops fired "warning shots" at "several suspects" who they claimed posed a threat, but stated this was 1km away from the aid site.
  • The UN and established aid charities have criticised the GHF’s aid plan, particularly its biometric scanning policies.
  • Multiple witnesses have reported incidents of Israeli troops firing on crowds near aid delivery sites, with previous incidents resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.
  • The UN secretary-general has called for an independent investigation into the killings, with the UN describing Gaza as the “hungriest place on Earth”.
