The National Trust is poised to shed approximately 550 jobs to significantly reduce its annual wage bill amid mounting financial pressures.
This move is part of a broader strategy to achieve £26 million in savings and represents an estimated 6 per cent reduction of its total workforce.
The charity states that escalating costs, including recent increases to employer national insurance contributions and the national minimum wage, have added over £10 million to its annual wage bill.
These rising costs are outpacing the growth in both visitor numbers and donations, despite increasing demand and support for The National Trust's work.
The National Trust is working with the union Prospect to manage the transition and has implemented other cost-saving measures to avoid job losses.
