Technical error sees Kneecap rapper’s terror charge dismissed
Kneecap's Mo Chara arrives at court to find out whether terror charge to be dropped
The terrorism case against Kneecap rapper Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara, has been dismissed by a judge.
The 27-year-old musician was charged in May for allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, a proscribed organisation, at a gig in London.
At Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, chief magistrate Paul Goldspring ruled the proceedings unlawful and null due to a technical error.
The necessary consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions and Attorney General was not obtained within the six-month statutory time limit, he said.
Mr Ó hAnnaidh had denied the offence, labelling it “political policing” and a “carnival of distraction” from the war in Gaza, which Kneecap has vocally opposed.
