Kristi Noem says DHS is removing age restrictions to hire more ICE officers
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is leading a recruitment drive for ICE, removing age restrictions and offering incentives such as student loan forgiveness to attract new agents.
The initiative aims to bolster ICE's ranks to support President Donald Trump’s mass roundup of illegal immigrants, funded by the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill', which allocates over $170 billion for immigration enforcement.
The recruitment campaign has already garnered 80,000 applications for 10,000 positions, targeting Gen Z, early-career professionals, and ex-military or law enforcement personnel.
Additional benefits offered to recruits include a $50,000 golden handshake, enhanced retirement packages, and extensive overtime opportunities, with actor Dean Cain publicly endorsing the drive.
Despite the recruitment push, ICE continues to face criticism regarding due process, detention conditions, and reports of declining officer morale and a fall in arrest rates.
