Twelve new towns to be built across England
- Labour's Housing Secretary, Steve Reed, is set to announce plans to begin construction on three new towns before the next election.
- The initial priority sites for development are expected to be Tempsford in Bedfordshire, Leeds South Bank, and Crews Hill in north London.
- A total of 12 new towns will also be advanced, each designed to include at least 10,000 homes, contributing to a collective goal of 300,000 new houses across England.
- Reed will advocate for at least 40 per cent of these new homes to be affordable, supporting Labour's broader commitment to build 1.5 million new homes.
- Labour intends to establish a 'New Towns Unit' to drive development, drawing lessons from post-war housing booms and the regeneration of Stratford, east London.
