Thousands of knockoff Labubu dolls seized as toy’s popularity hits fever pitch
Labubu thieves make off with thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from LA store
More than 11,000 counterfeit Labubudolls, valued at more than $500,000, were seized by border patrol agents near Seattle last week.
The knock-off toys are replicas of popular dolls created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and produced by Pop Mart, which have become highly sought after.
Genuine Labubu dolls, often sold out, feature security measures like holograph stickers and scannable QR codes to distinguish them from fakes.
The market for these counterfeit dolls, jokingly called "Lafufus," has grown significantly due to the genuine dolls' popularity and high resale value.
Concerns have been raised about the safety of fake Labubu dolls, with warnings from the Consumer Product Safety Commission about potential choking hazards for children.
