Driving test backlogs could be fuelling rising scams against learner drivers
New driving test rules to come into force for 2025 announced by DVSA
Learner drivers are being warned about a significant increase in scams offering fake driving tests and lessons.
TSB bank reported a 211 per cent rise in total losses from these frauds between January and August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, with an average loss of £244.
Scams include paying for lessons that never materialise, offers for non-existent fast-tracked tests, and fraudulent DVSA websites.
Driving test backlogs are believed to be contributing to the surge in these scams, as learners seek quicker options.
Both TSB and the DVSA advise learners to only pay for verified services through official channels and to report any suspicious social media accounts.
