Police scene outside De Montfort University campus following 'very serious incident'
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a university student was fatally stabbed in Leicester city centre.
Police were called just after 5pm on Tuesday to Oxford Street, near De Montfort University, where the man in his 20s had collapsed after being stabbed.
The victim was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but died a short time later, with De Montfort University confirming he was one of their students and offering support.
Leicestershire Police believe the victim was involved in an altercation with another man who left the scene before officers arrived.
The investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing CCTV, appealing for witnesses, and maintaining road closures in the area as they piece together the events.
