Met re-vetting 300 recruits over fears crucial checks were missed
There are concerns that background checks for over 300 officers may have been improperly conducted or substandard (PA Archive)
Scotland Yard has launched a review into the vetting of hundreds of new recruits who joined the force between 2016 and 2023.
The review follows concerns that crucial background checks for over 300 officers may have been improperly conducted or substandard.
Many of the affected recruits were hired during the Conservative government's 'uplift' recruitment drive, which aimed to increase police numbers.
This internal review is part of wider efforts to raise professional standards and improve public trust, predating the tenure of current Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley.
The move comes amidst a series of scandals and damning reports, including the Wayne Couzens case, which highlighted failures in police vetting and conduct.
