Protests against the use of asylum hotels continued across the UK on Sunday, leading to clashes with police and several arrests.
Yvette Cooper announced plans for a new fast-track appeals system to accelerate asylum decisions and reduce the current backlog of approximately 51,000 cases.
The proposed system aims to replace judges with professionally trained adjudicators to speed up the process and help Labour meet its pledge to end the use of asylum hotels.
The government stated it inherited a chaotic asylum system, while critics are urging for an immediate end to hotel use due to rising costs and community tensions.
Recent incidents include a High Court injunction to remove asylum seekers from a hotel in Epping following violent protests, and claims of new hotels sparking protests in Perth were deemed false.
