Polish skier completes historic Everest ascent

Polish climber completes historic ski descent of Mount Everest after summit
  • Polish mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel has become the first person to climb Mount Everest and ski back down without using supplemental oxygen.
  • The 37-year-old completed the historic feat last week, following years of preparation and two previous unsuccessful attempts.
  • Bargiel spent nearly 16 hours in the 'death zone' (above 8,000 metres) during his final push to the summit, which he reached after a four-day climb.
  • His descent was completed over two days, with his brother reportedly using a drone to help navigate treacherous sections like the Khumbu Icefall.
  • This achievement adds to Bargiel's extreme skiing records, including being the first to ski from the summit of K2 in 2018.
