Severe flooding in Pakistan forces 500,000 people to evacuate
Pakistan’s flooded Punjab trigger health emergency as disease outbreaks threaten children
Over 500,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province due to severe flooding in the last 24 hours.
The recent evacuations increase the total number of people displaced since last month to 1.8 million, with 3.8 million affected across Punjab.
The floods are a result of dangerously swollen rivers, including the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab, exacerbated by heavy monsoon rains and water released from Indian dams.
Muzaffargarh and Multan are among the worst-hit districts, where mass evacuations are ongoing and the government has set up tents for displaced families.
Thousands of rescuers and military personnel are conducting extensive relief operations, with authorities calling this the worst flooding in Punjab's history.
