Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of allowing children in Gaza to die of starvation, describing the situation as an "unbearable humanitarian catastrophe".
She warned that the two-state solution faces "profound peril" and risks disappearing, blaming "extremists on both sides" and citing ongoing bloodshed, famine, terrorism, and settlement expansion.
Ms Cooper defended the UK's recent decision to recognise Palestine, stating it was a move of "urgency and principle" aimed at preserving the two-state solution.
She said that Palestinian statehood is an "inalienable right" and that a two-state solution remains the only path to lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Her remarks at the UN General Assembly coincided with other nations recognising Palestine, as the ongoing conflict in Gaza dominated the assembly's agenda.
