Pope Leo XIV has criticised excessive corporate pay packages, specifically citing Elon Musk's compensation plan for Tesla, in the first media interview of his papacy.
He highlighted the growing disparity between CEO and worker salaries, noting that executives now earn significantly more than employees compared to 60 years ago.
Leo expressed concern over the potential for Mr Musk to become the world's first trillionaire, saying: “If that is the only thing that has value anymore, then we're in big trouble.”
He also criticised the United Nations, saying it has lost its ability to foster effective multilateral diplomacy on global issues.
The Pope took part in the interview for an upcoming biography, and an excerpt was published by the Catholic news organisation Crux.
