Pope Leo XIV has issued an impassioned appeal for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, urging Israel to cease "collective punishment" and forced displacement of Palestinians.
His call comes as Israel prepares for an expanded military offensive in the besieged territory.
The Pope also demanded the safe entry of humanitarian aid and the release of the remaining 50 hostages held by Hamas.
He cited international law, stressing the obligation to protect civilians and the prohibition of collective punishment, indiscriminate force, and forced displacement.
