Pope Leo criticised the rise of nationalist political movements during Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, advocating for reconciliation and dialogue.
The Pope asked the Holy Spirit to eliminate barriers and indifference, denouncing exclusionary mindsets and ‘security’ zones that separate people.
Leo referenced Pope Francis's 2023 Pentecost observation that people are disconnected despite being connected, due to indifference and solitude.
He condemned the wars plaguing the world and prayed for peace, emphasising that inner peace is essential for spreading peace in families, societies, and international relations.
Since becoming Pope, Leo has consistently prioritised peace, as reflected in his initial message, and has called for peace in Ukraine and a ceasefire in Gaza.
